Profile

Profile

Seán Brickell has been a presenter, reporter and producer on network and regional television and radio, as well as a writer and reporter for the national and international print media. He is a Royal Television Society award winner and his broadcasting and journalistic work has been nominated for three other awards. He started his career at the age of 14 by writing articles for his local paper during his school holidays. He later went on to become the UK’s youngest ever national television news reporter, aged 21, and a year later became one of the youngest ever network television newsreaders. This was despite his journalism college lecturer telling him he might not make it in the profession!

Undercover work

Those he has worked for as a journalist include the BBC, Sky News, ITN, Channel 5, the Sunday Telegraph, the Guardian, the Sunday Express, Scotland on Sunday, the Mail on Sunday, News of the World, the Sun and various current affairs and general interest magazines. He has also been the editor & managing editor of an online publication. He has covered a wide range of stories throughout his career, from major national and international events to travel and light-hearted and off-the-wall items. He has also had “exclusive” stories published in national newspapers and broadcast on television which include exposures of multi-million pound frauds which prompted investigations by the Office of Fair Trading. Some of this Seán carried out as an undercover investigative journalist.

Spies, near death & cannibalism

Seán, whose interests vary from sailing, motorbiking and polo to travel and playing the saxophone, has always loved adventure and tackling new challenges and believes in living life to the full. As a schoolboy, he taught himself how to throw the discus, winning junior international honours and several county championship titles. He even became a member of Mensa, the high IQ society. Later, Seán almost lost his life on a mountaineering expedition to Irian Jaya while under the armed escort of the Indonesian special forces because of the threat of kidnap and murder. He has travelled in cannibal inhabited jungles and climbed unconquered mountains among the glacial wastes of Greenland. On one trip through Eastern Europe, he was held at gunpoint in the former Yugoslavia during the conflict there, arrested twice in two days by corrupt armed, plain clothes policemen in Poland and pursued into Asia by an Iranian government agent.

It'll Be Alright On The Night!

Seán loves to absorb and share the many funny sides of life, including his own. Some of his more unorthodox professional moments as a reporter and presenter have appeared in various out-take & blooper shows on television in Britain and the USA! They’re just some of the many funny stories with which he entertains his audiences.
