How to have confidence...even in your darkest hour

England cricketer Michael Vardy has shown great courage and confidence in equal measure in announcing why he is having to leave the team at a crucial stage of thecricket World Cup. He is suffering from depression.

There was no euphemistic phrase used by the team managers or even him. In today's increasinlgy media conscious world, there is more pressure to put a spin or gloss on such issues for fear of how people will perceive you.

News of Yardy's departure will come as an even greater shock to England supporters who are hoping to see the team lift the World Cup for the first time. And yet his decision to quit and head back home should make people admire him even more for being so disarmingly honest.

"Leaving at this stage of the World Cup campaign was a very difficult decision to make," said the 30-year-old al rounder who has been fighting the condition for a long time.

"I felt it was the only sensible option for me and I wanted to be honest about the reason behind that decision," he added.

Michael Yardy is a courageous man who has shown that you can have confidence in yourself even in your darkest hour. What a fine example he is to us all.
