Gordon Brown's not master in his own home

Watching Barack Obama in Gordon Brown's prime ministerial pad today was most revealing. As they left a photo call in one of the Downing Street drawing rooms, the US President stood right by the Prime Minister and patted him on the shoulder, holding his hand there as if he was shepherding Brown around his own home.

It revealed what we could see anyway, that Brown was ill at ease in the presence of the new President who ushered his British counterpart out of the older man's own room as if he was a seeminlgy tolerant boss seeing off his humble and insecure junior employee. Actually, that's exactly how this scene played out.

I know Obama has presence, charisma and greater power, not to mention a 3 ton fortress for a limousine, but that should not stop our PM from deciding to act like the unsure underling, particularly when on his home turf and even more so when in his own home.

Gordon, give me a call and we will sort out your body language and attitude so next time you appear more like a British PM of note.
